 In no particular order, they were:

 

Enhancing the client facing experience – for example, sharing and collaborating with clients by posting information to a client portal

 

Straight through processing of investment account paperwork using electronic signatures

 

Intelligent scanning - enabling scanned documents to be filed more quickly and reliably

 

Tying document management into workflows. For example, using document assembly software to automatically and electronically collate quarterly reports, post reports to a client web portal, and automatically file them into the document management software (check out Assemblage, for example)

 

To this list, I would also add the shift from document management to “record” management. This includes rules to archive or purge old records that are no longer required to be maintained from a compliance perspective (i.e., the required retention period has expired).
