In a hotel lobby in New York City late Thursday night, TDAI's Glenn Young demoed the new app, which makes TD the first of the custodians to launch an iPad app. (Correction: Pershing Advisor Solutions was the first custodian to offer a tablet version to advisors, on its NetX360 platform for advisors.)

Thus begins a new era in technology for advisors, an era that will be enable advisors to conduct their business from anywhere.

Young, a TDAI consultant to advisors on technology, says the iPad app will be launched announced Friday and is available for free to advisors to download in the App Store or via iTunes™ at www.itunes.com/appstore.

Advisors can access client account details including balances, transactions and client profile information as well as real time market data, news and alerts.

According to a press release, future enhancements will include transactional functionality such as trading, account profile updates and the ability to move money.  Advisors who custody assets with TD Ameritrade Institutional can download Veo Mobile for iPad free from the App Store or via iTunes™ at www.itunes.com/appstore

TDAI is the first custodian working with advisors to open up its backoffice brokerage system, Veo,  to tech vendors by creating an application programming interface,  enabling advisor apps to pull and push data into  Veo. TDAI says Veo’s open access capabilities will allow disparate systems to “talk” to each other or exchange information on multiple devices including the iPad.

Pretty exciting stuff.
