Asset managers are continually creating new products. They are also making greater efforts to educate investors about those products. Fully one third of retail money managers are targeting alternative assets as one of their most important growth initiatives.
 
Money managers also need to educate financial advisors and invest more time and money educating advisors in distribution channels. Discussions of alternatives is expected to become more ingrained into regular mutual fund discussions instead of being outside traditional discussions about mutual fund strategies.
 
Commodities are another type of mutual fund investment that is currently not included in regular mutual fund investment strategy conversations.
