Fifty years of statistical history of a classically diversified portfolio are examined by Craig Israelsen, Ph.D., who’s researched, written, and taught about implementing modern portfolio theory for over three decades.

In this annually updated class about how key components of a core portfolio behave, participants learn about risk, return, and correlations for large-cap, small-cap, and foreign stocks, as well as real estate, commodities, bonds, and T-Bills.

Performance characteristics of a variety of asset allocation schemes using the seven assets are back-tested and discussed, highlighting how modern portfolio theory works at poignant moments in financial history.

You learn about:

• Standard deviations of the asset classes
• High-, moderate-, and low-risk portfolios over the past 50 years quantified
• Rolling correlations of asset classes
• Behavior of portfolios in accumulation versus decumulation modes
• Illustrating retirement portfolio results more realistically by reflecting cash flows
• What to do about bonds

Learning objectives of this monthly course, include:

• the importance of including diverse asset classes in portfolio construction

great overview; I think the 25 year rolling periods would be good to have for comparison and relevance. Few of my clients have 50 years to invest.
