Just as online brokers revolutionized the way Americans invested in the 1990s, social network investing websites could radically reshape the financial advice business.
Social networking websites enable individuals to shadow trades of professional investors. When a pro makes a trade, the trades are automatically and immediately duplicated in the portfolios of individuals following the professional’s advice.
With millions of Americans hooked on social media, this technology could disrupt the way most people now get investment advice.
At this webinar, you’ll learn:
Speakers Eric Esterkin and Rikki Tahta work for Covestor, a leading social networking investor site. Esterkin is director of manager relations and Tahta is chief investment officer. Esterkin, who has worked previously in investment banking and asset management, has a MBA from the University of Southern California and publishes the popular Investeneur newsletter.
A former investment banker with Dillon Read & Co., Tahta previously held senior roles at several startups, including ARK Information (acquired by Thomson Financial), WebTrack (acquired by Jupiter Communications), Steelhead Systems (acquired by Merrill Lynch) and Bookpages (acquired by Amazon.com). He holds a BA in History from Oxford University, a MBA in finance from Columbia Business School, and a Series 65.

It was mainly about Covestor and rarely touched on social network investing.

I thought it was very thought provoking. Not sure how advisor community will appreciate that they do not "own" these clients but instead "provestor" does. The person who holds the relationship owns the client. As Andrew pointed out, the gunslingers with no licenses in their underwear have nothing to lose and aren't going to care whether they keep the client. Brian Wettlaufer
