Microsoft's Dynamics CRM 2011 is a real competitor for advisorsm and it's only a matter of time before consultants turn up to customize a version for advisors.

The hosted version rolled out yesterday at $34--a 25% discount overt the peviously announced price--will be a rival to a system like Salesforce, which about twice as much.

It does not match up feature-for-feature with Salesforce.com, according to a PC World post, but is comparable.

What's going to be interesting is to see how long it takes before some Dynamics consultants create a version of the program or advisors.

Usually consultants customize a CRM system for individual advisory firms and, after doing so for 10 or 20 firms, create an advisor template of the program.

I hardly run into any advisory advisory firms running Dynamics. But this cloud version may change that. Still, it faces tough competition since the most popular web-based CRM systems--Ebix CRM, AppCrown (an advisor version of  Salesforce), and  Redtail--are already built for advisors and don't need any customization.

If any A4A members are using Dynamics or plan to check out the new hosted version from Microsoft, please let us know how it goes.
