I think Mary or Andy should become more familiar with the fiduciary standard, which is a legal doctrine going back hundreds of years, not an "industry standard." The FPA/NAPFA/CFP Board Coalition has worked very hard on this, and whether some advisors like the standard or not, it is going to become the standard of care for all providing investment advice, or the "profession" will never achieve that status.

On the positive side the presentation provided a good summary of the history of the advice issue and the current status. I would have liked to have seen more on how advisors might take advantage of this opportunity.
