The ability to apply "plans" and "what-ifs" in various combinations against a client's base data allows efficient review of a range of scenarios. The capability to specify the future sale or purchase of assets and the transfer of funds among accounts allows for quite detailed modeling. A “Ledger” report provides a audit trail of the transactions affecting each asset or liability. Client portal and document vault are well designed.
The Bad
Due to its “scraping” methodology, CashEdge links break when the financial institution changes its online security scheme or requires passwords to be re-specified. Certain client data entry screens require MS Internet Explorer (but most analytical and reporting tasks can be performed using the other popular browsers). The price seems comparatively high, and there is no option to unbundle CashEdge.
The Bottom Line
eMoney suits my preference to have access to the underlying data and modeling tools so that most, if not all, of the client’s anticipated financial events can be modeled and included in the analyses. The company promptly addressed a calculation quirk we identified.
