Social networking is coming to the wirehouse as Morgan Stanley rolls out a program of preapproved Tweets for its massive advisor force.
The social networking capability will let advisors promote the firm's "firm-approved research and content" -- stock ideas, apparently -- with everyone signed up to follow a Morgan rep's Twitter account.
Morgan will also support LinkedIn profiles.
Timeframe is to give a test group of 600 Morgan advisors at least "partial" access to the sites next month and then, if all goes well, roll it out to everyone else by the end of the year.
It remains to be seen just how exciting or "spontaneous" the preapproved content will be, but Morgan seems to be in the camp that even a somewhat chilly -- but FINRA-compliant -- social media presence is better than none.
