"The ability of businesses to monitor our behavior is already a fact of life, and it isn’t going away," says economist Richard Thaler. "But if we’re smart, we’ll also use the data that is being collected to improve our own lives."

If your cell phone company is required to tell you all about your calls once a year by giving you data about your calling behavior, argues Thaler, you may be able to use that data to save money on your phone bill.

 

Thaler, best known to advisors for his his work in behavioral finance, says consumers have a right to such data.
