Now You Can Chat On Facebook From Hotmail: What's That Mean?

Microsoft yesterday rolled out a new feature on its popular web-based email service, Hotmail, that lets users chat on Facebook.

Microsoft, which is an investor in Facebook, is no enabling its 350 million Hotmail users worldwide to chat using Hotmail's Messenger app, and Facebook's 600 million users can the social network's chat app to communicate with Messenger users.


While Read Write Web's pos about the integration focuses on how this intgeration one ups Gmail, which has no such integration with Facebook, the tighter integration of Microsoft with Facebook has huge potential. 


The social networking giant is poised to overtake Google as the most influential desitination on the Web. For Microsoft, tighter integration with Facebook's deeply engaged users could one day soon mean that Microsoft Office will be integrated with Facebook.  


After all, the integration announced yesterday puts Facebook friends just a click away for users of Windows Live, Microsoft's online version of its solutions. 


As Windows Live and Microsoft's desktop apps become more tightly integrated, it's likely to become easier to use your Facebook account from Microsoft Office.
