Who Owns Your Data? If You're Using Free Apps, You May Not Like The Answer

As we use the Internet() for “free,” we have to remember that if we’re not paying for something, we’re not the customer. We are in fact the product being sold — or, more specifically, our data is.

Since 2006, our willingness to share data has risen dramatically. So has companies’ ability to mine it for new insights, and not always in ways we’d approve of, says Mashable.

Who owns your data should be on the mind of every financial advisor out there for many reasons. I have reciently been involved in several situations that have made it up to the federal court system and you would be shocked at how a simple mistake and you can loose your whole book of business. Fortunatly for the advisors I represent that did not happen.
