CRM Possibly Still Misunderstood?
The 2009 Financial Planning Software and Technology survey was recently published, and surprisingly, CRM remains an under utilized area for financial practices.
A full quarter of survey respondents counted Microsoft Outlook as their primary CRM solution. A cacophony of voices sound out at hearing that statistic knowing full well Outlook is not a CRM application. While it is (to me as well) the premier Windows-based email client, that is where its functionality ends.

I have discussed this elsewhere - however - I could not pass on sharing this here as, like myself, the number of Mac users in financial services continue to creep upward. Some industry estimates have it at 3%, which although a small share, adds up to a tidy number of users. Additionally, I have had a number of conversations both at conferences and in email threads with folks who have switched or are assessing a conversion.

Microsoft Email Tools for Advisors in 2010
Microsoft is attempting to compete with Google Apps for Business with its new Exchange Server 2010, part of its unified communications strategy. The Google Apps allure is certainly a low cost of entry, well known ease of use, collaboration tools and Postini email archiving.
As a disclosure, I use Google Apps for Business myself, and am quite satisfied with the functionality. My only wish list item for now is for Google to integrate Google Voice, which I covered in a recent article.
