No, I did not buy the Xoom. I resisted. But it was awfully tempting.

It's slightly smaller than the iPad and as slick. The Xoom was also incredibly fast. I was on Verizon's 3G network and was able to navigate from site to site with no delays in load time.

The reason I did not buy the Xoom is twofold. First, I don't need it. My Sony Z Series laptop weighs under four pounds and is really portable, I use a Kindle for reading, and I'm planning on getting the new HTC Thunderbolt Android phone when it comes out in a week or two. The phone should do pretty much everything the Xoom does. Secondly, over the next year, new tablets will be released every month, and each new one will is likley to make the previous one look old.

But the processor speed of the Xoom and its quick Web navigation were very impressive and it was hard to walk out of the store without one.

Tablets are the future and they will force all of the apps advisors are using to create a version that can run on a tab.

Some other interesting news on the Xoom:

CNET reported that Verizon is going to require Xoom owners to mail in the device when they want to upgrade from 3G to Verizon's 4G network, known as LTE. The upgrade is expected in late May.

Many reviews of the Xoom and its Android Honeycomb operating system from Google were mixed. Here's a good roundup of some leading reviews.
