Quantopian: Promised nirvana for math and science geeks with the chops to create their own algorithms.

The startup provides the infrastructure and tools needed to create and optimize algorithms in an open and transparent environment.

It also provides tools for backtesting through an open source backtesting application.

The site says algorithms are, for the most part, not well understood and that the site will facilitate the connection of a large cross section of programmers, scientists, and investors and the algorithms created will impact the markets.

The site will provide transparency and accountability, the opposite of which Wall Street has traditionally used to keep quantitative finance to itself. Until now.
