Despite global economic angst, State Street’s Global Markets Investor Confidence Index (ICI) improved in July. The index improved .7% to 94 from June’s reading of 93.3. Confidence in North America and Europe decreased slightly while confidence in Asia improved.

ICI was created in a collaboration between Harvard professor Kenneth Froot and State Street’s Paul O’Connell.

The reporting period for the index closed just before the announcements from European leaders that they may be willing to make changes in policy, making it difficult to judge whether the policy announcements will have any effect on investor confidence and appetite for risk.
