Focus Financial Partners Adds Another $1 Billion RIA To Its Network Hot

The Colony Group will start a new holding company with Focus to run its $1.3 billion RIA business under current management. 

The infusion of capital from Focus gives Colony's founder and current chairman, Kirby Hamilton, a chance to retire. The firm also hopes that its current generation of advisors will get a chance to build equity in the new entity.

Reportedly the deal allocates 40% to 70% of Colony's profits to Focus in return. That's quite a wide spread. Unless it's set up as some kind of sliding performance benchmark, it would be unusual to say the least.

Focus has acquired four RIAs so far this year, bringing its total stable of firms to 19.
