Description

This webinar shows advisors how to explain why "total" market index funds -- equity and bond -- are outperformed by advisors investing in individual funds.

The performance advantage is far more significant in stocks than in bonds, but overall the convenience of total market indexes does not justify their under-performance compared to investing in individual funds that target specific asset classes.

Prof. Craig Israelsen, a portfolio design expert, shows professionals how to illustrate this competitive advantage, which has grown more important as low-cost solutions confuse investors seeking financial planning and investment advice.

I was disappointed in the lack of multiple periods of illustration. It was based on a single 18 year period that I thought was data mining. Overall the message I received was build your own indexes based on equally weighting it will give more return than a capital weighting based index.

This webinar was too long and the last half hour was unproductive. The fact that total market indices appear to underperform there subcomponents is interesting, but there was no attempt to answer the important question of why this occurs. Without knowing why it is hard to know how likely this trend is to persist.
