For the first time in years, inflation just rose to hit the Fed's target rate. How will inflation affect the survival of retiree portfolios in the years ahead? This presentation reviews survival rates of retirement portfolios over the last 47 years based on various withdrawal schemes.
You will see the impact on portfolio survivability when a fixed-rate cost of living adjustment (COLA) versus a COLA tied to the Consumer Price Index is applied, as well as the results of a withdrawal scheme based on annual required minimum distributions (RMDs). A strategy tying withdrawals to the higher of the fixed-rate COLA withdrawal, CPI-based annual withdrawal, and the RMD withdrawal also is illustrated. You'll learn to show clients how the risk of seemingly trivial decisions on withdrawal strategies will affect their portfolio's survivability when they are in their 80s and 90s.
